De Ruijter has been on almost every breakfast table in the Netherlands. Holidaymakers who have had breakfast in the Netherlands will recognize this. In 1860, the foundation was laid by Cornelis Rutgerus De Ruijter, who started a confectionery shop in Baarn and introduced Muisjes (anise seeds with a layer of sugar). These were so popular that the Dutch royal family appointed De Ruijter as purveyor to the royal household. Since then, De Ruijter has enriched our breakfast table with, among other things, chocolate sprinkles and flakes. For example, the birth of Princess Beatrix in 1938 was the reason to release orange mice and the origin of the Dutch tradition of serving rusks with mice to guests at a birth. In 1985, De Ruijter received the Royal predicate and the company name was changed to Koninklijke De Ruijter B.V.
